Christmas

Christmas is coming, the geese are

getting fat,

Please to put a penny in an Old

man's hat;

If you haven't got a penny, a

ha'penny will do,

If you haven't got a ha'penny,

God bless you.

Advice From Poor Robin's Almanac

Now that the time has come wherein
Our Saviour Christ was born,
The larder’s full of beef and pork,
The granary’s full of corn,
As God hath plenty to thee sent,
Take comfort of thy labours,
And let it never thee repent
To feed thy needy neighbours.

Rejoice and be glad
Open your bag
And fill our handkerchiefs
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Armenian Traditional

Christmas-tide Comes in like a Bride

When Christmas-tide comes in like a bride,

With holly and ivy clad,

Twelve daus in the year, much mirth and good cheer

In every household is had.

from The Praise of Christmas 1630

Fun and Games

O your merry, merry souls,

Christmas is a-coming;

We shall have flowing bowls,

Dancing, piping, drumming.

Delicate minced pies,

To feast every maiden,

Capon and goose likewise,

Brawn, and dish of sturgeon.

Then for your Christmas-box

Sweet plum-cakes and money,

Delicate Holland smocks,

Kisses sweet as honey.

Hey for the Christmas ball,

Where we shall be jolly;

Coupling short and tall,

Kate, Dick, Ralph, and Molly.
