The Twenty-fourth of December
The clock ticks slowly, slowly in the hall, And slower and more slow the long hours crawl; It seems as though today Would never pass away; The clock ticks slowly, s-l-o-w-l-y in the hall.

Bethlehem
A little child,
A shining star.
A stable rude,
The door ajar.
Yet in that place,
So crude, folorn,
The Hope of all
The world was born.

Long, Long Ago
Winds through the olive trees
Softly did blow,
'Round little Bethlehem
Long, long ago.
Sheep on the hillside lay
Whiter than snow.
Shepherds were watching them,
Long, long ago.
Then from the happy sky,
Angels bent low,
Singing their songs of joy,
Long, long ago.
For in a manger bed,
Cradled we know,
Christ came to Bethlehem,
Long, long ago.

A Catch by the Hearth
Sing we all merrily
Christmas is here,
The day that we love best
Of days in the year.
Bring forth the holly,
The box, and the bay,
Deck out our cottage
For glad Christmas Day.
Sing we all merrily,
Draw round the fire,
Sister and brother,
Grandson and sire.

When Santa Claus Comes
A good time is coming, I wish it were here, The very best time in the whole of the year; I'm counting each day on my fingers and thumbs- The weeks that must pass before Santa Claus comes.
Then when the first snowflakes begin to come down, And the wind whistles sharp and the branches are brown, I'll not mind the cold, though my fingers it numbs, For it brings the time nearer when Santa Claus comes.

Would You Follow
How many would follow the star tonight If it shone past the Milky Way, Leave comfortable homes and follow it still, Over the hills and away.
How many would open their doors tonight For a weary and shabby pair? Make room at hearths for a Stranger-Child, Though the Infant be wondrous fair?
How many would would give of their goods tonight, The best they possess and more, For their faith in a star and an angel choir And a King forevermore?
We censure the folk of a bygone time For indifference to Mary's plight. How many would do any better now? Would you follow the star tonight?

For the Children or the Grown-Ups
Tis the week before Christmas and every night As soon as the children are snuggled up tight And have sleepily murmured their wishes and prayers, Such fun as goes on in the parlour downstairs! For Father, Big Brother, and Grandfather too, Start in with great vigour their youth to renew. The Grown-ups are having great fun - all is well; And they play till it's long past their hour for bed.
They try to solve puzzles and each one enjoys The magical thrill of mechanical toys, Even Mother must play with a doll that can talk, And if you assist it, it's able to walk. It's really no matter if paint may be scratched, Or a cogwheel, a nut, or a bolt gets detached; The grown-ups are having great fun - all is well; The children don't know it, and Santa won't tell.
